Douglas Island Building Renovations
The State of Alaska's Douglas Island Building houses the Department of Fish and Game and the Department of Corrections. The renovation of the building included several challenges, including the reconfiguration of pedestrian circulation to a new entry, improving drainage, and coordination with numerous utilities on the site. The site now includes a series of entry courtyards, landscape lighting, canopies, and decorative paving, contributing to an aesthetic and logical pedestrian connection to the entry. Above-ground utilities at the entry area were integrated (rather than ignored) by painting them and including them as an intentional design part. A public gathering plaza is central to the landscape, acting as a landscaped amenity area for employees and the public.
