Dan Moller Outhouse

Corvus Design was hired by The US Forest Service (USFS) to work with PND Engineers to complete the design of a toilet and outhouse building for the Dan Moller Recreation Cabin. The trailhead is located in the Blueberry Hills subdivision on Douglas Island, and the trail continues 3.0 miles over a 1,700’ elevation gain to the site of the cabin. It is a popular recreation cabin that is used year-round and is the only cabin in the Juneau area that allows winter motorized access. The current cabin outhouse does not meet accessibility standards and requires waste handling multiple times a year, increasing staff time up at the site and maintenance costs. The outhouse is not structurally sound and was not designed for the extreme snow loads experienced on-site. The building is slowly settling down the slope, impeding access, and ease of maintenance.
