North Wynn Visitor Center

The Center for Alaskan Coastal Studies (CACS) is an environmental education organization in Homer, Alaska, that delivers educational programs and guided tours to over 11,000 students and visitors every year. Corvus Design provided pro-bono services to CACS to develop a site plan for their renovation of the historic North Wynn property and cabin. The building will act as a visitor center for the adjacent Wynn Nature Center and provide another facility for CACS operations. The building was an expansion of a cabin that was relocated to this site and served as the caretaker residence for the Wynn family’s home. The site design includes an outdoor deck, an adjacent great lawn for events, and a trail connection crossing the adjacent creek to access the Wynn Nature Center. Beyond the significant architectural and interior design elements to be preserved with the house, the landscape took some inspiration from the original landscape drawings circa 1972 that were never implemented.
