Andrew P. Kashevaroff State Library, Archives, and Museum
The Andrew P. Kashevaroff State Library, Archives, and Museum in Juneau is one of the highest-profile projects in Alaska. A key component was the development of its plaza, with full integration of 1% for art within the plaza design. We worked first with the artist to redevelop the plaza to incorporate multiple steel/glass art elements within a new plaza design. We applied our expertise to collaboratively refine the design concepts to accommodate materials and construction techniques and ensure feasibility. We were then brought into the project design team to develop construction documents for the plaza and artwork integration and expand our scope to include the complete landscape design for the entire site. Beyond the plaza, the site had extensive plantings composed of native and locally adapted ornamental species. As a key community hub for Juneau, this plaza provides a welcoming entry to this facility and acts as a valuable public space for Juneau.
