Northwood Park Interpretive Trail

Northwood Park is a 15-acre park in the Spenard neighborhood of Anchorage. As a part of a term contract, Corvus provided interpretive design services to develop an interpretive plan and designs for 29 interpretive signs. Focusing on people’s connections to wetlands, the signs educate on the vast array of services that wetlands offer people and their critical role as a habitat. The design provided a richness of information that coincides with the elementary school curriculum, informs a wide range of users, and could potentially develop a ‘wetland workbook’ for the site. The signs were developed in consultation with the Alaska Center for the Blind. Aspects such as contrast, glare, and font size were reviewed to enhance visibility to the visually impaired, in addition to providing a serial number (written and in braille) for each panel and an accompanying audio recording describing the content of each sign.
