Iditarod Elementary

Iditarod Elementary School’s mission is "Building promise and potential in the heart of our community.” This MatSu Borough Elementary School had outgrown its existing building and needed to expand to a new site. We worked closely with the design team to develop a site plan separating vehicles and pedestrian circulation while maintaining existing vegetative buffers. The design includes a bold new entry plaza with custom benches that bring the school’s colors into the site, age-appropriate playgrounds leading to recreation fields, and the wooded trail system beyond. An outdoor classroom area provides teachers an expanded facility, and a custom dog sled play structure reminds students of the school's namesake.
